It has been a special honor and privilege to have served the membership of UAW Local 602 for over three terms as President. I have qualified for the Special Attrition Package offered in the current collective bargaining agreement and will be retiring April 1st, 2020.
While I’m excited about this new chapter in my life, there’s also a big part of me that’s sad to be saying goodbye. I can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed serving in this capacity, and how much I value the support you’ve shown me over the past few years. The various roles and responsibilities I’ve taken on within the UAW over the course of my career has helped me grow both personally and professionally, giving me a unique opportunity to build relationships with a diverse group of individuals and colleagues I would not otherwise have had.
I have always said that I’m no better or smarter than anyone in this membership, I simply raised my hand to serve, proudly guarded my integrity and honesty, admitted and learned from mistakes, and at every step pledged to give 110% in order to serve this membership to the best of my ability.
I worked my way up to the office of President with a goal of meeting and exceeding challenges. As I reflect on past accomplishments, I must point out that it most always took a team of individuals working with me who were dedicated to furthering the union cause in order to see those ideas, dreams and aspirations to fruition. Though each term as President brought its own set of challenges, experiences, change, and new opportunities, I’ve been privileged to have always chaired an executive board that has been willing to work hard with compassion and heartfelt concern for the members they represent. From the beginning I have made it a priority to build leadership in others, offer guidance, counseling, consoling and unwavering support. In return, the countless experiences, friendships and personal growth have been more than I could ever have asked for.
In closing, I am grateful for the opportunity to have lead this local, and am especially thankful to have been blessed with your trust and support in doing so. You will always be my family, will always be in my heart, and in my thoughts.
President Bill Reed
