Union members often contribute more to their communities than most people realize. Beyond advocating for worker rights, union members are known for contributing financially and volunteering time to various causes. Some of the many ways union members help:

Contributions to local food banks, homeless shelters, and education funds.

Volunteering their time to local organizations, community service projects (such as rebuilding homes or handicap access ramps), organizing community events, or supporting schools.

Offering scholarships for members' children and community programs.

Raising awareness and funds for diseases like cancer or diabetes.

Beyond these formal donations, union members also contribute informally by supporting their brother and sisters when they are in need. Stereotypes about unions sometimes overshadow these charitable efforts because local unions do not publicize their efforts. Highlighting these contributions helps break stereotypes and shows how unions play a large role in the local communities, not just in the workplace. Brothers and Sisters, be PROUD of your generosity and what you do. (you can see pictures in this edition from the area locals during the collection times)

This year, everyone here at LDT set a number of records for contributions during this holiday season. Toys for Tots gate collection, Old Newsboys Gate Collection, Toys for Tots gifts (Angel Tree gifts and over 200 bikes) – LDT really outdid themselves!!!

With all the holiday excitement, please remember to pay attention if someone seems down or not their usual self. Holidays can be a difficult time for some, so keep them in mind.
